Evarastus works with and guides organisations, researchers, schools, community groups, individuals, and other interested parties in learning for sustainable development. His work primarily focuses on groups and organisations that serve underserved rural communities in Kenya. As a social entrepreneur, he has historically utilised natural resource bases within the communities he serves to help uplift people into sustainable livelihoods through ecotourism and other nature-based enterprises.
In his role as CEO, he leads the implementation of the organisation’s overarching sustainable development learning goals. He collaborates with departmental heads to develop approaches and define advocacy campaigns, with a focus on building collaborative learning and living ecosystems that help communities acquire the knowledge, skills, and talents needed to embed sustainability into current and future societies. He is also an advisor and educator.
Evarastus holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Development Studies from the Management University of Africa. He is a graduate of the Community Leadership Institute and an alumnus of the Community Solutions Program. He also serves as a CSP Alumni Activator, offering mentorship to global CSP fellows. Evarastus has received several awards, including the 2013 Eco Warrior Award as Student Mentor of the Year and a Wildlife Conservation Society Research Award.
He previously served as a Coordinator at Statunga Ecotours, where he developed and honed skills in building and managing local tourism enterprises that ensured local people sustainably benefited from the natural environment through tourism.
One of Evarastus’ notable achievements is leading AV in developing impactful global partnerships with organisations such as Bat Conservation International, the International Conservation Fund of Canada, the National Geographic Society Explorer community, and maintaining an outstanding record with projects supported by the Rufford Small Grants Foundation, among others.
