Integrating Technology into local conservation for sustainable development
Angaza Vijiji > Portfolios > Integrating Technology into local conservation for sustainable development
We recognise the critical role of technological advancements in achieving sustainable living in today’s world. To this end, we strive to integrate relevant technological elements into our initiatives that engage schools and young people. Strategic partnerships are central to our approach, ensuring that our conservation efforts are sustainable. For instance, we have developed secure platforms that allow students and youth to engage safely without exposure to external risks. Additionally, we have established a bat monitoring platform where students involved in our straw-colored fruit bat research can collect monthly data, providing them with early exposure to real-world work environments.
Our ongoing efforts include collaborating with various agencies and individuals to enhance our adoption of technological innovations. This enables us to empower our partners, particularly young community members, in incorporating technology into their daily lives. We focus on supporting farmers and local participants in our research by localising technology for their daily tasks. For example, we have developed a mobile application integrated into our monthly bat monitoring activities and have trained local schools and scouts on its use. Furthermore, we assist many young rural individuals in creating and utilising social media accounts to enhance their livelihood activities, such as farming, marketing, recording, and data communication.
