With support from the Mohamed Bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, we launched an education programme in Jimba Watamu, Kilifi, on the northern coast of Kenya. This initiative aims to reduce the persecution of coastal cave bats, including the endangered Hildegarde’s Tomb Bat, which is native to the coastal regions of Kenya and Tanzania.
To achieve this, we have established five school clubs as a platform for community education. Additionally, we have trained fifteen local bat guardians who are leading efforts to raise awareness about the crucial role bats play in our ecosystems.
Our goal is to change public perception and promote the conservation of these important species, ensuring they continue to thrive in their natural habitats.
