Our Services

Enterprise

Our enterprise focuses on the sustainable utilisation of natural resources through tourism to generate income for conservation, community livelihoods, and leisure. We also promote agribusiness in communities and sustainable energy ventures to support both conservation and livelihoods.

Sustainable Tourism

We advocate for market-based approaches to conserving natural resources and biodiversity. Empowering local communities to earn from ecosystem services through nature-based enterprises is one of the best methods to promote sustainable conservation. This approach further enhances community-based conservation.

School and Community-Based Conservation Initiatives

Our school outreach programme empowers local communities in western Kenya to participate in conservation through research, education, and other conservation actions. We establish and engage school clubs and local community groups as conservation custodians, mentoring young people to become future conservation leaders.

Outdoor Learning

We support the Kenyan government’s effort to promote Competence-Based Learning through our outdoor learning programme. This programme helps young people learn about the science of ecology, fostering informed decision-making for sustainable livelihoods and nature conservation.

Global Learning

We promote global learning by hosting volunteers, sharing lessons from our fieldwork, and encouraging inter-school and youth learning exchanges. In the spirit of sustainable development, we work to promote partnerships among various actors both locally and globally. This facilitates knowledge sharing and promotes sustainable development and global learning through physical and virtual interactions.

Conservation

Our conservation initiatives focus on community involvement, integrating technology, and fostering innovation. Activities include:
– Research and monitoring
– School and community education
– Training for local working groups

Community Livelihoods

We promote global learning by hosting volunteers, sharing lessons from our fieldwork, and encouraging inter-school and youth learning exchanges. In the spirit of sustainable development, we work to promote partnerships among various actors both locally and globally. This facilitates knowledge sharing and promotes sustainable development and global learning through physical and virtual interactions. To deter the destruction of natural resources, we invest in building sustainable livelihoods. Our interventions improve livelihoods while conserving nature. Key activities include:
– Tourism:Integrating indigenous communities into tourism enterprises to foster local appreciation and conservation of ecosystems and natural resources.
– Energy Enterprises: Investing in sustainable energy ventures.
– Food Security: Promoting food security through sustainable agriculture and permaculture. We invest in building sustainable livelihoods to deter the destruction of natural resourcesĀ

Integrating Technology into Local Conservation

We incorporate technology in our biodiversity monitoring initiatives and community engagement programmes to streamline efforts and enhance youth involvement. For example, our school and community programmes engage students and youth in monitoring species such as the straw-coloured fruit bat (Eidolon helvum) and Hildegardeā€™s tomb bat (Taphozous hildegarde). This initiative collects monthly data and provides early exposure to the workplace environment.

Promoting Food and Nutrition Security

We advocate for sustainable land use and educate young people on food systems and value chains. Our programmes teach how to produce safe, healthy, and sufficient food using minimal land resources through methods like fleet farming.

Nature-Based Therapy

We promote mental and physical wellbeing through outdoor activities such as hikes, treks, team-building events, biking, and nature walks. These interactions between people and nature foster mental and physical health. We partner with mental health organisations to organise team-building and bonding sessions, utilising nature-based therapy techniques.
